First ever gui

Xerox

I just wanted to post this amazing link to images of the first ever gui by Xerox. Mostly so I can go back and look at it later. Imagine if Xerox had done something in there slightly differently – the computers we’re all using right now would probably be pretty different.

Graduate Exhibition

Posted on 12 November 2010

The QUT creative industries graduate exhibition, Interchange, was held this week. I entered a work that I built together with Scott Macfarlane called Vicroscope. It was an interactive AR installation that created a swarm of microbes that crawled around on the hands of the visitors who played with it. It was a success, not crashing or glitching up at all, which proved my pessimism towards making something people have to play with completely wrong!

Have a look at the Interchange website to see the blurb on it for the moment – I’ll put some production info up on my blog and add it to my portfolio in the days ahead! Right now I need to recuperate and catch up on the sleep lost getting it ready for final showing. The rest of the graduates had some amazing work too.

Also, visit my project partner Scott Macfarlane, he did the majority of the construction of the physical object, coding and testing while I did the project branding, character design, and animation as well as cobbling together most of the code.

Expect a more coherent reflection on how the grad show went, along with some photos and video, very soon. So tired!

Portfolio updates

Posted on 26 October 2010

Added some fresh new things to my portfolio – hopefully they will better reflect what I’ve been doing lately and also more of what I’m interested in pursuing now.

I culled pretty much everything from my old portfolio except one thing – though I feel like it might be a bit of a gap to not have any branding or illustration work up. While I don’t do a lot of that it might be worth including at the bottom to show my diversity. I may go in and add those things later tonight to be a bit more thorough. Because obviously if I were to get some freelance illustration or branding work through this site, I would be ecstatic! Neither is my forte, though I do enjoy both. I have a rather embarrassing DeviantART page that will attest to my love of silly cartoon drawings, though none of them are particularly worth linking here.

New news!

Posted on 25 October 2010

I’m finally refreshing this site to reflect my ability to actually design – before it was a bit of a cluttered mess.

This is a really busy month as I finish off uni – I have my final interaction design for the grad show to complete in just over a week for assessment, and I’m trying to figure out what to do with regards to applying for honours. But with any luck I will come through, and with some exciting new items to add to my portfolio.

Logo design

Posted on 08 September 2009

Last month I was asked to design a logo for buyequip,  a company that recycles and sells used IT equipment. Initially I was given very free reign to come up with concepts, but in the end Buyequip decided on their own specific idea which I developed. Here are some of my original concepts -

Initial ideas

These were my very first ideas, incorporating IT and recycling in a pretty obvious way.

Visual Compositions: Site style mockups

Posted on 16 August 2009

These are my final mockups, featuring a style I intend to apply to this site. The pages featured are the landing page, portfolio page and about page. This style will be applied throughout the site however, from these high leel pages down to comment forms.

This design style is intended to reflect my personality and professional design aesthetic as well as function as a usable and aesthetically pleasing website.
